Mothman returns to Point Pleasant, West Virginia?

Point Pleasant
THE RED STAR IS POINT PLEASANT, WEST VIRGINIA. THE SIGHTING OCCURRED ON ROUTE 7 BETWEEN HUNTINGTON AND POINT PLEASANT.

Today I was contacted by a Mrs. Kay M. of Apple Grove, West Virginia. Kay wanted to relate to me a story of something that frightened her while she and a friend were on their way to an arts and craft show. The date was Friday, December 3rd, 2004 around 6:30 PM in the evening. It was completely dark by that time of the day.

She and her friend were driving between Huntington and Point Pleasant, West Virginia on route 7 when suddenly a large winged object swooped down in a gliding, kite like motion in front of the windshield. It flew to the other side of the road. It repeated the motion three times. Kay's friend who was driving nearly lost control of the car. The creature was no more the ten feet from the ground. Just high enough to pass in front of the wind shield.

Kay described the creature as having a wingspan as long as the windshield of the car. She could see no head but noted that when back lit by passing cars, the creature was gray in color and lacked any type of feathers on the wings.

Kay said that the wings were not really bat like but not regular bird wings either. If anything came close to what she saw it would have been the wings of a Pterodactyl. Kay said the creature flew very fast and so it was hard to make out any other features. Kay is a former high school art teacher and a graphics artist.

Witness Kay Mace tells her story in her own words.

I live in Ravenswood, West Virginia and had gotten home from work about 3 PM. I packed up my car and set off for Huntington, West Virginia for an arts and craft show. I was traveling with a friend who was driving the car. I was sitting in the front passengers seat.

We had gone through Point Pleasant and were driving south on old Route 2 along the Ohio River. It was after 6 PM and already dark. Traffic headlights were on. We had just passed through Apple Grove and gone over the railroad tracks at Ashton. This is a long straight stretch. There were no cars close behind us and the oncoming traffic was also quite a distance away. It had been a clear day. We were driving with the windows up and the radio on.

Suddenly, from the right, over the river, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a shape. A smooth, gray, winged shape that swooped in a figure eight above the road in front of the windshield. It happened as fast as you could blink your eyes three times. It looked like it was going to smash into the wind shield! It was back lit against the oncoming headlights. Again, I want to say that what I saw was gray, smooth and almost translucent as if some of the light was coming through it. It could have been headlights reflecting off of it. I'm not positive.

UFO Reconstruction
Ink and colored pencil drawing by witness.

The wings were very long and pointed on the ends. I was not aware of a head, although it may have been tucked into the shoulder. I also was not aware of any type of tail or feathers or surface texture. There were no apparent lights on it. I would guess that its length was at least fifteen feet from wing to wing tip. It was "not" a bird, not a kite, didn't appear machine like.

The shape had very little thickness, like a bat. A flattened shape. Unlike a bat I could see no ribs or spokes on the wings. The shape "banked" as it swooped in the figure eight loops and I could see different angles of the wings as it turned. They did not flap but seemed to stretch wider as it swooped across in front of the car. As it turned it almost looked transparent at times. At its lowest dive it looked to be about five feet above the road surface. It then flew off.

We both yelled to each other "Did you see that?" We excitedly asked each other to describe what we had seen. We agreed that it was gray, three times the width of the windshield and was winged shaped. The driver also said he did not see a tail or head. He only noticed that it swooped once but he was driving and had to watch the road.

He did say the underside of the wing in front of the windshield looked ragged, almost like the edges were disintegrating and tearing off. He did say it looked transparent.

We spent the rest of the trip trying to characterize what we had seen. We laughed and said that maybe we had seen Mothman.

Little did I know that on Dec. 5th on my way home, within miles of the this sighting, I would see another "unexplained" phenomena.
